Verse 1
ततः प्रसादितो देवैर्विश्वामित्रो महातपाः ।
प्राप्तवान् परमं ब्रह्म ब्राह्मण्यं तपसा स्वयम् ॥
Then, having been pleased by the gods, the great ascetic Vishvamitra attained the supreme state of Brahmanhood through his own austerities.
Verse 2
ततः सुमहद् आश्चर्यं देवाः सर्षिगणास्तथा ।
दृष्ट्वा विश्वामित्रतपः प्रशशंसुर्महामुनिम् ॥
Then the gods together with the groups of sages, seeing the great and wondrous austerities of Vishvamitra, praised the great sage.
Verse 3
ततो ब्रह्मा महातेजा विश्वामित्रं महामुनिम् ।
उवाच मधुरं वाक्यं ब्रह्मर्षित्वमुपागतम् ॥
Then the greatly radiant Brahma spoke sweet words to the great sage Vishvamitra, who had attained Brahmarshi-hood.
Verse 4
महर्षिस्त्वं महातेजा ब्रह्मर्षिरिति चोच्यसे ।
तपसा ते महाभाग प्रीतोऽस्मि वरदः प्रभुः ॥
“O greatly radiant one, you are a great sage and are called a Brahmarshi. O greatly fortunate one, I am pleased with your austerities and am ready to grant you a boon.”
Verse 5
एवमुक्तो महातेजा विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः ।
प्रणम्य शिरसा ब्रह्माणं प्रत्युवाच महातपाः ॥
Thus addressed, the greatly radiant great sage Vishvamitra bowed his head before Brahma and replied.
Verse 6
यदि मे भगवान् तुष्टो ब्रह्मर्षित्वं च मे ध्रुवम् ।
वसिष्ठेन महाभाग तेन मे स्वस्ति शाश्वतम् ॥
“If Bhagavan is pleased with me and my Brahmarshi-hood is firmly established, then may Vasistha, the greatly fortunate one, grant me everlasting acceptance and well-being.”

ततः प्रहृष्टो भगवान् ब्रह्मा लोकपितामहः ।
वसिष्ठं समुपागम्य वाक्यमेतदुवाच ह ॥
Then the venerable Brahma, the grandsire of the worlds, became pleased, approached Vasistha and spoke these words.

वसिष्ठ त्वं महातेजा विश्वामित्रस्य धीमतः ।
ब्रह्मर्षित्वं प्रदेहि त्वं सत्यं वचनमुत्तमम् ॥
“O greatly radiant Vasistha, grant Brahmarshi-hood to the wise Vishvamitra. Let your word be true and supreme.”

ततो वसिष्ठो भगवान् प्रहृष्टो मुनिसत्तमः ।
विश्वामित्रं महात्मानं ब्रह्मर्षिमकरोत् तदा ॥
Then the venerable Vasistha, the best among sages, became pleased and made the great-souled Vishvamitra a Brahmarshi.

ततः प्रहृष्टवदना देवाः सर्षिगणास्तथा ।
विश्वामित्रं महात्मानं तुष्टुवुर्मुनिपुङ्गवम् ॥
Then the gods together with the groups of sages, with delighted faces, praised the great-souled Vishvamitra, the foremost of sages.

सिद्धाश्च ऋषयश्चैव गन्धर्वाश्च महर्षयः ।
सर्वे ते मुनिशार्दूलं प्रशशंसुः पुनः पुनः ॥
The Siddhas, sages, Gandharvas and great seers all praised the tiger among sages again and again.

ततः प्रहृष्टो भगवान् विश्वामित्रो महातपाः ।
प्रणम्य सर्वदेवांश्च स्वाश्रमं पुनरागमत् ॥
Then the venerable great ascetic Vishvamitra, greatly pleased, bowed to all the gods and returned to his hermitage.

तत्र स्थित्वा महातेजा विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः ।
तपश्चचार धर्मात्मा दीर्घकालमरिन्दम ॥
There the greatly radiant great sage Vishvamitra, righteous in conduct, continued his austerities for a long period, O subduer of enemies.

तस्य तत्र तपो दीर्घं दृष्ट्वा देवाः सवासवाः ।
अब्रुवन् मुनिशार्दूलं वरं वृणीष्व कौशिक ॥
Seeing his prolonged austerities there, the gods together with Indra spoke to the tiger among sages: “O Kaushika, choose a boon.”

विश्वामित्रो महातेजा देवान् सर्वानुवाच ह ।
तपसः फलमिच्छामि ब्रह्मर्षित्वं च शाश्वतम् ॥
The greatly radiant Vishvamitra spoke to all the gods: “I desire the fruit of my austerities and everlasting Brahmarshi-hood.”

ततः प्रहृष्टा देवाश्च ऋषयश्च महर्षयः ।
विश्वामित्रं महात्मानं प्रशशंसुः पुनः पुनः ॥
Then the gods, sages and great seers, greatly pleased, praised the great-souled Vishvamitra again and again.

ब्रह्मर्षिरिति ते नाम सर्वलोकैः प्रतिष्ठितम् ।
तपसा भावितात्मा च सत्यधर्मपरायणः ॥
“Your name as Brahmarshi is established throughout all the worlds. Through austerity your being has been purified, and you are devoted to truth and righteousness.”

ततः प्रहृष्टो भगवान् विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः ।
प्रणम्य सर्वदेवांश्च ब्रह्माणं प्रत्युवाच ह ॥
Then the venerable great sage Vishvamitra became pleased, bowed to all the gods and spoke to Brahma.

भगवन् देवदेवेश ब्रह्मर्षित्वमुपागतम् ।
वसिष्ठेन च मे सर्वं मन्यते नात्र संशयः ॥
“O Bhagavan, O Lord of the gods, I have attained Brahmarshi-hood, and Vasistha also recognizes me as such. There is no doubt about this.”

ततः प्रहृष्टो भगवान् ब्रह्मा लोकपितामहः ।
उवाच मधुरं वाक्यं विश्वामित्रं महातपाः ॥
Then the venerable Brahma, the grandsire of the worlds, became pleased and spoke sweet words to the great ascetic Vishvamitra.
इति वाल्मीकि रामायणे आदिकाव्ये बालकाण्डे चतुःषष्टितमः सर्गः ।
Thus ends the sixty-fourth Sarga of the Bala Kanda of the Valmiki Ramayana, the original epic.
