Verse 1
त्रिशङ्कुं पतितं दृष्ट्वा विश्वामित्रो महातपाः ।
अब्रवीत् कुपितो वाक्यं सर्वान् ऋषिगणान् प्रति ॥
Seeing Trishanku falling, the great ascetic Vishvamitra, becoming angry, spoke these words to all the groups of sages.
Verse 2
अहं ससृज्यमानं तु त्रिशङ्कोः स्वर्गमुत्तमम् ।
सृष्ट्वा लोकान् बहून् रम्यान् स्थापयिष्यामि शाश्वतान् ॥
“I shall create a supreme heaven for Trishanku. I shall create many beautiful worlds and establish them as eternal.”
Verse 3
ततो देवाः सगन्धर्वाः सिद्धाश्च परमर्षयः ।
विश्वामित्रं महात्मानं वारयामासुरुद्यतम् ॥
Then the gods together with the Gandharvas, Siddhas and supreme sages restrained the great-souled Vishvamitra, who was intent upon creating them.
Verse 4
न शक्नुवन्ति देवास्ते वारयितुं महातपाः ।
विश्वामित्रं महात्मानं क्रुद्धं लोकविनाशनम् ॥
The gods were unable to restrain the great ascetic Vishvamitra, who was enraged and capable of destroying the worlds.

ततः प्रहृष्टवदना देवा ऊचुर्महामुनिम् ।
न शक्यं तव कर्तुं वै त्रिशङ्कोः स्वर्गमुत्तमम् ॥
Then the gods, with delighted faces, spoke to the great sage: “It is not possible for you to create a supreme heaven for Trishanku.”

देवानां वचनं श्रुत्वा विश्वामित्रो महातपाः ।
अब्रवीत् स महातेजा देवतानां समागमे ॥
Hearing the words of the gods, the great ascetic and greatly radiant Vishvamitra spoke in the assembly of the deities.

सृष्टो मया महातेजा त्रिशङ्कोः स्वर्ग उत्तमः ।
न शक्यं तं विनाशाय देवैः सर्वैः समागतम् ॥
“I have created a supreme heaven for the greatly radiant Trishanku. It cannot be destroyed by all the gods assembled together.”

सशरीरश्च त्रिशङ्कुर्वसेत् स्वर्गे मया कृतः ।
यथा च देवाः सत्यं मे करिष्यन्ति वचो हितम् ॥
“Trishanku shall dwell in the heaven created by me with his physical body. The gods shall therefore honour my word as true.”

ततो देवाः सगन्धर्वाः सिद्धाश्च परमर्षयः ।
ऊचुर्विश्वामित्रं वाक्यं सहिता मुनिपुङ्गवम् ॥
Then the gods together with the Gandharvas, Siddhas and supreme sages collectively spoke to Vishvamitra, the foremost of sages.

एष त्रिशङ्कुर्भगवन् सशरीरो दिवं गतः ।
तव वाक्येन देवेश नात्र कार्या विचारणा ॥
“O venerable one, this Trishanku has reached heaven with his physical body by your command. O lord among sages, there is no need for any further consideration here.”

ततः प्रहृष्टो भगवान् विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः ।
उवाच मधुरं वाक्यं देवतानां समागमे ॥
Then the venerable great sage Vishvamitra became pleased and spoke sweet words in the assembly of the deities.

सशरीरश्च त्रिशङ्कुर्वसेत् स्वर्गे मया कृतः ।
नक्षत्राणि च सर्वाणि तत्र तिष्ठन्तु शाश्वतम् ॥
“Trishanku shall dwell in the heaven created by me with his physical body. Let all these stars remain there eternally.”

एवमुक्त्वा महातेजा विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः ।
विरराम महातेजाः सृष्टिं कृत्वा सुदुर्लभाम् ॥
Having spoken thus, the greatly radiant great sage Vishvamitra ceased his creative work after accomplishing this exceedingly difficult creation.

ततः प्रहृष्टमनसः सर्वे देवर्षयस्तथा ।
विश्वामित्रं महात्मानं प्रशशंसुर्महामुनिम् ॥
Then all the divine sages, with delighted minds, praised the great-souled Vishvamitra, the great sage.

सिद्धाश्च ऋषयश्चैव गन्धर्वाश्च महर्षयः ।
सर्वे ते मुनिशार्दूलं प्रशशंसुः पुनः पुनः ॥
The Siddhas, sages, Gandharvas and great seers all praised the tiger among sages again and again.

ततः प्रीतमनाः सर्वे विश्वामित्रं महर्षयः ।
ऊचुर्वचनमव्यग्रं त्रिशङ्कोः कारणादिदम् ॥
Then all the great sages, pleased in mind, spoke calmly to Vishvamitra concerning the matter of Trishanku.

साधु साध्विति ते सर्वे विश्वामित्रं महामुनिम् ।
ऊचुस्ते मुनिशार्दूलं कृतार्थं मन्यमानवः ॥
“Excellent! Excellent!” they all said to the great sage Vishvamitra, the tiger among sages, considering his purpose accomplished.

ततः प्रहृष्टो भगवान् विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः ।
प्रणम्य सर्वदेवान् वै स्वाश्रमं पुनरागमत् ॥
Then the venerable great sage Vishvamitra, greatly pleased, bowed to all the gods and returned again to his hermitage.

तत्र स्थित्वा महातेजा विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः ।
तपश्चचार धर्मात्मा वर्षाणि बहुशः प्रभुः ॥
There the greatly radiant, righteous and powerful great sage Vishvamitra continued performing austerities for many years.

तस्य तुष्टोऽभवद् ब्रह्मा देवैः सह महेश्वरः ।
प्रादुर्भूतो महातेजा वरं दातुं महात्मने ॥
Brahma, together with the gods and Maheshvara, became pleased with him and appeared in great splendour to grant a boon to the great-souled sage.

ततो ब्रह्मा महातेजा विश्वामित्रं महामुनिम् ।
उवाच मधुरं वाक्यं वरं वृणीष्व कौशिक ॥
Then the greatly radiant Brahma spoke sweet words to the great sage Vishvamitra: “O Kaushika, choose a boon.”

ब्रह्मर्षिरिति मां लोका मन्यन्तां मुनिपुङ्गव ।
एवमुक्तो महातेजा ब्रह्मा लोकपितामहः ॥
“O foremost of sages, let the worlds recognize me as a Brahmarshi.” Thus addressed, the greatly radiant Brahma, the grandsire of the worlds, responded.
इति वाल्मीकि रामायणे आदिकाव्ये बालकाण्डे एकोनषष्टितमः सर्गः ।
Thus ends the fifty-ninth Sarga of the Bala Kanda of the Valmiki Ramayana, the original epic.
